Galway Biomedical has opened a new 13,000 sq ft facility in Ballybrit Business Park, further strengthening the city’s role as a leader in the medical device sector. This strategic location places the company in the heart of Galway’s medtech ecosystem, as it aims to grow its presence both nationally and globally.
The new site will focus on the development and manufacture of components for a wide range of medical applications, including vascular, dental, orthopaedic, urology, and general surgery. As part of the expansion, the facility includes a dedicated 4,000 sq ft ISO Class 7/8 cleanroom, which will allow the company to support high-quality, precision manufacturing.
In line with its growth strategy, Galway Biomedical plans to introduce advanced technologies that will support innovation in medical device production. These enhancements are expected to help customers access the latest developments in the field.
The company also announced upcoming recruitment efforts, with new positions to be created across research and development, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, and operations. These roles are intended to support the facility’s expanding capabilities and reinforce Galway’s reputation as a hub of medical technology expertise.
Government officials have welcomed the investment, recognising the facility as a significant boost for the west of Ireland’s growing life sciences sector. The development is also seen as further validation of the region’s attractiveness for both domestic and international investment in science and technology.
