Three more international conference wins for Dublin

Dublin has won three more international conferences, which will bring 1,400 delegates into the city and almost €2m into the Irish economy, Failte Ireland has announced.

The agency said the new conference business confirmed in the past month now represents a potential financial impact of €10m.

The three new wins are:

•Life Cycle Assessment of Foods Conference 2016 – to take place in Dublin in October 2016, with 450 delegates expected. This is the conference of Washington-based American Center for Life Cycle Assessment.

•International Network of Basin Organisations European Conference on the Water Framework Directive – to take place in November 2017 and bring in 750 delegates. The international association is based in Paris.

•Fire Safety for All in Buildings Conference – 200 delegates to attend this event in April 2016. It is being organised by FireOx International, a division of Sustainable Design International Ltd.

The events were won with the assistance of Fáilte Ireland’s Conference Ambassador Financial Support Programme, which provides support to Irish members of international groupings to bring their association’s conference to this country.

“The average business traveller tends to spend two or three times as much as a leisure tourist,” said Miriam Kennedy, head of business tourism with Fáilte Ireland. “Therefore, wins such as these are incredibly important for many of those hotels and venues who cater for such large events – sustaining and growing jobs as well as revenue in the sector.”
