New EU package will cut red tape for business
Ibec, the group which represents Irish business, has said the European Commission’s new better regulation package will help tackle unnecessary regulatory and administrative costs for business.
Ibec Senior Executive for Government, Enterprise and Regulatory Affairs Aidan Sweeney said: “Poorly designed policy, legislation and regulation add to the cost of doing business in Ireland and are obstacles to growth and job creation. The European Commission’s better regulation package should lead to a more systematic approach to assessing the impact of new laws and regulations. This will avoid unintended consequences resulting from new rules”.
“Regulation impacts the general business environment. This is not just an issue for SMEs. The better regulation agenda must deliver a business environment that supports entrepreneurship, attracts investment and rewards innovation and risk-taking. The EU will be continuing to examine ways to cut red-tape and this will be given higher priority in light of UK attempts to negotiate a new EU reform package. These changes will require Ireland to respond at home and influence reforms abroad”, concluded Aidan Sweeney.
