Galway named world’s friendliest city in US travel magazine reader survey

Galway has topped a list of the friendliest cities in the world, as judged by the readers of US magazine, Travel + Leisure, while Dublin and Cork have been ranked third and fourth respectively.

Each year, the New York-based travel magazine asks its readers to take part in its World’s Best Awards – a survey rating destinations and travel providers.

The top 10 friendliest cities, according to the 2015 Travel + Leisure survey, are (in order): Galway; Charleston, North Carolina; Dublin; Cork; Siem Reap, Cambodia; Auckland, New Zealand; Melbourne, Australia; Sydney, Australia; Edinburgh, Scotland; and Savannagh, Georgia.

“It is another well-deserved accolade for Galway, Dublin and Cork,” said Tourism Ireland CEO, Niall Gibbons. “Again and again, our research shows us that the friendliness of our people is one of our unique selling points. It is the warm welcome and the ‘craic’ here that resonates with our overseas visitors and makes our cities, and the island of Ireland, such a great choice for a short break or holiday.”
