Fifty-three Irish companies make it to Deloitte Best Managed shortlist

A shortlist of 53 indigenous Irish companies that will compete over the next few months to be named a Deloitte Best Managed Company has been revealed.

Now in their seventh year, the awards have so far recognised almost 100 of Ireland’s most dynamic and innovative companies. Deloitte’s best managed companies over the last six years have total revenues of approximately €7bn and employ over 5,000 people. The latest batch of shortlisted companies employ over 19,000 people and have total revenues of €6bn.

The shortlisted companies represent a variety of industries, including manufacturing, technology and media, financial services, energy and resources, consumer business, life sciences and healthcare and hospitality. Almost half of the companies shortlisted are from the manufacturing and technology sectors.

Shortlisted companies will now work closely with coaches from Deloitte and partner Barclays Bank Ireland as they face an in-depth review by the judging panel of all aspects of their operations. Each contender must demonstrate how their organisation is meeting its strategic objectives and adding value to the business, while receiving invaluable, customised feedback.

“It is a forensic process that affords companies greater clarity on their strengths and weaknesses that could hinder their growth,” said Kevin Sheehan, lead partner on Deloitte’s Best Managed programme.

The judging panel will this year be chaired by Frank Ryan and will consider a broad range of criteria, including strategy, capability, commitment, financials and growth potential across all key functions of the business. In addition, the judges will pay close attention to the innovative strategies that companies are employing to drive growth and profitabilityts.

“With the recovery of the Irish economy slowly gathering pace, companies are now presented with a significant opportunity to refine their strategies for investment and growth in order to maximise their potential within the market,” said Helen Kelly, head of large corporates for Barclays Bank Ireland.

The winners of this year’s awards will be announced in March 2015. For the first time, ‘platinum’ winners – companies that have been awarded best managed status each year since the programme began – will be recognised.
