Baxter Healthcare celebrates 50 years in Castlebar

Baxter Healthcare is commemorating 50 years of manufacturing in Ireland. The company’s Castlebar location, which opened its doors in 1972 with just nine workers and has grown to more than 1,200 workers, is honouring its 50-year history.

The milestone and the effect Baxter has had on its employees, the local economy, and the Irish healthcare industry was celebrated at a special event with the participation of the Taoiseach, senior IDA Ireland executives, and worldwide Baxter leadership.

Currently, Baxter has close to 2,000 employees spread across five locations, including its production facilities, Shared Services Centre, aseptic compounding facilities, and sales and marketing office.

Baxter’s Castlebar manufacturing facility, which produces more than 150 million goods a year, has progressively expanded to become one of the company’s largest production sites in Europe. It is in charge of developing a variety of medical products used in drug administration and renal dialysis therapy that are exported to markets around the world, including Europe, the United States, and Japan. More than €350 million has been spent on the building and the neighbouring Swinford complex since it first opened 50 years ago.
