As part of a major expansion, Boston Scientific will invest €100 million in its Galway facility.
Boston Scientific, a US medical device manufacturer is expected to create over 300 jobs over the next couple of years as well as expanding its manufacturing facility by 40,000 square feet at its Ballybrit site in Galway. This space will be powered by renewable energy.
The new site will contain a carbon-neutral manufacturing space, in keeping with the company’s objective of becoming carbon-neutral across all manufacturing and distribution facilities by 2030.
For than 30 years, Boston Scientific has had a significant presence in Galway, and the company has grown its capabilities to include innovative product design, research and development, and manufacturing.
The medical device company employs over 6,500 employees across its three locations in Galway, Clonmel, and Cork, making it Ireland’s largest life sciences employer. Boston Scientific has been operating on the island since 1994.
According to Boston Scientific, their Galway site exports roughly four million medical devices each year, including cardiac stents and valves, vascular balloons, and oesophageal stents.
